Haiti experienced continuous economic growth from 2004 to 2018 following the departure of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide but entered sustained contraction beginning in 2019 coinciding with anti-corruption protests against President Jovenel Moise. The current seven year decline represents the longest sustained economic regression since the 1991 to 1994 embargo period under military rule.
